The North Atlantic Treaty Organization

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, better known as NATO, kicked off its large-scale naval drills in the Baltic Sea on Sept. 9. The primary task of these naval drills was to simulate different Russian military attacks and NATO's response to them.

The two-week exercise involves about 30 ships and more than 3,000 Western service members. It's being conducted off the northern coasts of NATO members: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. All NATO countries are taking part in these drills, along with current NATO applicant Sweden, currently awaiting approval to join the military alliance. #CGTNAmerica
